Urgent Appeal to Save Popcorn the Kitten

(Wood Green Press Release) Wood Green, The Animals Charity, has launched an urgent appeal to raise £4,000 for an emergency operation to help save a kitten with a rare heart condition.

Popcorn was one of a litter of six kittens born in a foster home, as her mum was heavily pregnant when she arrived at the Charity’s Godmanchester Centre.

Sadly, only three of the kittens survived and Popcorn’s two sisters were rehomed as a pair, but Popcorn had to wait for her forever home when the vet discovered she had a heart murmur.

It was following a cardiac ultrasound scan that the severity of Popcorn’s condition was revealed.

Director of Veterinary Services, Vanessa Cunningham, said:

“It is vital that surgery is carried out before any symptoms are evident, as the condition puts a huge strain on the heart.

“This type of surgery is only possible at a specialist hospital, such as The Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, where the Charity hopes to be able to send Popcorn.

“Whilst we have funding for major operations, they are very limited, so to ensure the future of Popcorn and others like her, we are calling on the public to help us raise the money.”

After the operation, Popcorn will need several weeks of rest, care and attention but she should be able to live a normal life, ready to find her forever family.

If the target for Popcorn is reached, any extra money raised will go straight to the Charity’s Christmas ‘Hungry Mouths’ appeal, to allow the charity to give shelter and food for Popcorn and the hundreds of animals in their care this Christmas.

If you can help Popcorn, please visit her Just Giving page or text URGENT POPCORN to 70300, to donate £3.
