ThePet.net celebrated its ‘Year of the Rescue Pet’ at Crufts 2009 with Hope Rescue‏

My new ‘social petworking’ site ThePet.net is launching ‘Year of the Rescue Pet’ and will be working with its chosen rescue organisation, Hope Rescue, to raise funds to save dogs from death row.

Since its launch last October, ThePet.net has already been praised by Parliament in an Early Day Motion for helping to promote responsible pet ownership in line with the Animal Welfare Act.

My fellow co-founder, web and social networking expert Andrew Seel, and I launched the initiative to raise awareness of over-crowding in rescue shelters and encourage people to come forward to adopt a pet.

With the onset of the credit crunch there has been an increase in people giving up pets as money gets tight. ThePet.net is keen to highlight the benefits of pet companionship to your health in times of stress. ThePet.net website has some great money-saving tips to help you through the tough times.

Hope Rescue’s Vanessa Waddon commented: “We are delighted to team up with ThePet.net to promote Year of the Rescue Dog, as the saying goes ‘every dog has its day’ but now the rescue dog can have a whole year!”

ThePet.net is more than just another social networking site, it aims to revolutionise the global pet industry. The website allows pet owners to find the best for the pet through sharing and rating their own experiences of pet-friendly hotels, pubs, vets and other services.

ThePet.net has chosen to support Hope Rescue this year as it works slightly differently to other rescues by acting as a point of co-ordination between dog pounds and rescue shelters. By offering to transport dogs from pounds to secured rescue spaces, often across country, it has saved many hundreds of dogs from destruction.

ThePet.net will be running a variety of online campaigns to support Hope Rescue as part of Year Of The Rescue Pet and I’ll be judging at the Rescue’s annual dog show.
